About Me
I was born in Colorado, but have lived in Shelby Township for the past 9 years, with my husband of 11 years, Rafael. I have my undergraduate degree from the University of Chicago, an MBA from IIT, and a JD from Wayne State University, and am a Fulbright Scholar. I also speak several languages and have previously assisted with State Department efforts to showcase American communities for international investment.
I have worked as a consultant, including for Samsung, NASA, and in the medical industry. I have worked for the US State Department under President Clinton, and have been a small business owner for 22 years. As a licensed attorney, I authored a book on contracts for small business owners (pending publication), and am an internationally-exhibited artist.
I look to give back to my community in a number of ways. I was raised on the importance of volunteering, and have always been involved in helping the vulnerable of our community. Currently, I regularly help with several foster kids organizations, Dress for Success programs, am a foster parent with the Michigan Humane Society, and volunteer with Soul Studio (an arts workshop for disabled adults), and other arts organizations.
Rafael and I moved here as newlyweds because we were looking for an affordable place to build our lives, and a growing community to establish deep roots in. We found our home in Shelby and have never looked back. Rafael is a director of global trade compliance, helping companies move things across borders legally. I love to read and create, Rafael loves to cook and scuba dive, and together we are constantly finding new recipes to try, new places to explore, and watching old movies.
I love my community and firmly believe the amazing people of Shelby Township deserve leaders of integrity who are concerned for, and personally invested in, the well-being and growth of our city.
